Black Graffiti

originality1

This egg actually has an interesting story.  One day, I was working on a different egg that I had painted off-white, then covered with several different shades of brown.  I was trying to make something that looked like rock for a mountain-climbing egg that I’m working on.  But it didn’t look like a mountain.  Instead, it looked like a pile of mud.  :)

I decided that I hated it, and wanted to see if I could wash it off and start again.  So, I took it to the sink, and was lucky enough to have most of the brown come off.  I noticed that as I moved my thumb along various places, it took the paint off there, but the water alone wouldn’t do it.  I also noticed that it left a very cool graffiti style look behind.  Unfortunately, that’s one of the very few eggs I broke.  But it gave me the idea for this one.

I had some quotations printed, and applied them to the egg after doing this finish.  As you can see, it’s an interesting sort of look. The quotation on this egg says, “It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation. -Herman Melville”
